Last Call: Upcoming Changes Edition

It's true. I saw it.

Last Call is kind of like Blogkakke, only on PCP, LSD and ludes. Fuckin ludes man. Instead of just being a random link dump, it’s a place to congregate with fellow like minded sports fans, alcoholics and amateur comedians. So come on in, kick your shoes off and crack a beer; then regale us with a witty joke, bitch about that local sports team or ask gally the best way to get kicked out of a bar. Apparently he’s so good at it the manager will make up a nonsensical reason on the spot to do it. If you have something you’d like to see here, our contact info is over on the right and there’s always the tip line, tips @ thegallyblog.com

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Today we introduced Nonpopulist to you folks. Welcome him tonight as he’s going to be playing an inmportant role with the Gally Blog organization in the coming months. As always, if you notice a puddle around the ficus it’s not whiskey. It may look like it, but long story short, it’s gimps fault.

Musical Interlude:

Yeah, I’ve posted that song before. So what? A) It’s hot and B) it’s my site. Start your own site and post your own videos if you don’t like it.

Linkage:

Daddys Sugar Ball: Max Power and the boys present us with another wonderful edition of LOLMarchMadness. Congrats to them for getting linked by With Leather today. They do good stuff there.
Biz Journals: Ooh, hockey news. The Phoenix Coyotes could be on the move yet again. The rumors of them moving back to Winnepeg are picking up steam, and might have moved past the point of rumor.
The Snuggie Sutra: The. Fucking. Snuggie. Fucking. Sutra. This is why people want to blow the western hemisphere off the Earth. I think. I don’t know much about politics.
Playboy: Sex news from Playboy. Some really interesting articles are linked here, even the snuggie sutra. Even if you don’t like sex, there’s some interesting stuff there.
Hammer Fisted: UFC 111 from Logic’s perspective. He was there.
Edge: Son of a whore. Just when Edge had just made my regular reading rotation, Xmas Ape goes and pulls the plug on it. Read the archives.
The Globe And Mail: Michael Grange thinks that there’s no hope for the Raptors. I used to work for a Michael Gange. That’s relevent right?
Gunaxin: Five unbreakable sports records that you’ve quite likely not heard of. That is all.
The Onion: In a landmark case, the NCAA is set to strip Duke of it’s ’08-’09 losses. Yeah, losses.
Classy Dinosaurs: It’s the latest and greatest Tumblr, Classy Dinosaurs. Click it, I know you’re intrigued.
SB Nation: Spencer Hall checks in with and asks the chairman of the Name of the Year tournament a few questions.

For the Fella’s:

Evening folks. I’ll be in and out of this place tonight.

  • Sculptor?!? says:

Okay, I’ll pop tonight’s cherry (since the site owners don’t count)
First, a Welcome to Non-pop! Second, and most importantly: I can see her NIPPLES!!!

  • Nonpopulist says:

Thanks, Sculptor. I think I can the outline of where the nipples are. Kristina Jarvis? What is her claim to fame- never heard of her.

  • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

So… I’ve handed in my Macbook to the tech people at the university just to confirm that it’s dead. I’m back to my other (HP) laptop (almost 3 years old). Strange thing happened last night; I closed the top, but forgetting to check something on the internets, I opened it back up from sleep or whatever and I lost my wireless capabilities. I was on the live chat with HP today, but I’ve been unable how to figure out how to get it back. In a month, I’ll be done school and I’m thinking that I’ll just burn all of my documents/pdfs onto a DVD and then wipe the system clean.

To get to the point of this story, I was also thinking of installing Linux (Ubuntu in particular) just to give it a try. Do any of you have experience with it?

  • 2 Yellows says:

Hi kids. I’m back from Old Blighty. How are you lot getting on?

  • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

    2Y – Welcome back.

Did you get tickets for Philadelphia Union?

Also, where can I find out how to watch Toronto FC? I’m going to be around for a lot of the season and I’d like to watch them on TV, but I haven’t found the Canadian listings.

  • Rob in WI says:

And, I think, my final fantasy baseball draft of the year tonight. I am playing in way to many competitive leagues this year.

    Good evening folks.

    • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

Evening. I appreciated Slothrop and your choices in the KSKommenter draft re: movies for a desert island. I generally only read the commentors with an avatar, but I agreed with both of your draft boards.

      • Rob in WI says:

Haha. It was the first time I could do a KSKommenter draf this season. Most of the time they post when I’m observing Friday Nap Time or actually indisposed at work.

        • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

On the topic of liking your draft boards, OttoMan had some good picks too.

There was a Kurysawa (sp?) thing on Turner Movie Classics last week, and I saw some movie about different viewpoints and is there good and the first part of 7 samurai (rest on PVR to watch over easter). I liked both, despite not remembering the title of the first movie.

          • gally says:

Oh man, you got me there. Baseball talk, then you segued into Kurosawa (sp) and I thought there was a starting pitcher that directed movies…

            • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

I’m like that. My thinking went ‘Rob in WI, KSKommenter draft, movies that were selected.’ I ignored the baseball draft part. I am pretty excited about my Phoenix Pub team, but I haven’t looked at it in a while. I think that *if* my hitters perform like they have in the best, my outfield should mash its way to a good season. But I always have trouble in smaller leagues since I think ‘wow, these guys area awesome, my team rocks’ forgetting that other people have guys that are awesome too.

  • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

Re: The Linux. Well after I’m using open office as my main word processor already, and once I’m done this year of school I feel that it wouldn’t be too hard to back up all my existing stuff and make the switch. It will only be for internet and what I can do with open office (maybe some downloading of tv shows/movies too), but I figure I should be alright. I suppose streaming TV could be an issue.

    • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

@ Gally. This wireless fucking up on on laptop has pissed me off. Especially since my effort at fixing it failed. I’m now thinking that going back to square one might be best, so that’s why I thought why not give Ubuntu/Linux a try because I won’t be that invested in it so if I don’t like it it wouldn’t be that hard to go back.

  • Sculptor?!? says:

So, what’s good on tv tonight? I’ve got the attention span of a fruit fly today….

  • Logic says:

    Hello all. How’s it going?

  • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

    gally :
Oh man, you got me there. Baseball talk, then you segued into Kurosawa (sp) and I thought there was a starting pitcher that directed movies…

I also mentioned too that with Easter coming up, I’m listing to all my Bach religious music.

I can’t write if I can understand the words and I enjoy listening to classical, so I listen to classical/opera while I do homework. Nothing like having it on in the background while doing homework with muted college football on saturdays.

    • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

by also mentioned, I mean almost.

    • gally says:

It’s why I listen to a bunch of trance when I’m working. Usually. It’s often without words and it’s got a fast pace to it which keeps me productive.

      • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

You probably get a lot more done than I do with those beats.

      • Sculptor?!? says:

i’m the same way – i listen to techno or trance whilst sculpting. keeps the back of the brain occupied while i’m focusing on the task at hand, and also keeps the work pace up.

  • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

    Logic :
    Hello all. How’s it going?

Have you written up your baseball predictions? (Division winners and such)?

  • Rob in WI says:

Nonpopulist :I always hated Bret Hart. Always.

I’m ok with what happened last night. Fine, closure, whatever. But good god, let’s never see him again. He can’t work (as a wrestler, manager, or talking head) in the modern rasslin’ world.

  • Logic says:

God, diets are painful. I miss food.

  • Sculptor?!? says:

Top Gear. They named the car “Geoff”???

  • Martin says:

I believe the movie title you are looking for is Rashomon. Some tv series usually does a version of this about once every other year. It’s a really intriguing film. I love Kurosawa’s work and have a half dozen of his movies in my dvd collection…which is way to large…and never going to Blu-Ray you greedy bastages.

  • Bearcat says:

Thank you for providing beat off material… this is alway acceptable.
