Last Call: The Peoples Choice Edition

img

When Last Call first started out, it followed in the footsteps of DUAN. The first one we ever hosted here had ~360 comments and ~1000 page views. Now a good night at Last Call equals 40 comments and 200 page views. In lieu of that, Last Call will be under going a refurbishing. If people come out to play, I’ll post content. If not it’s going to be pretty barren. The Last Call post’s as they used to exist took around an hour to put together, but if no one is here to see it, it’s not worth the time. So if y’all come on out to party, I’ll post additional content. Cheers.

    To whoever is here:

I recently started a blog and i’m trying to get some advice/input. Basically, I was advised by someone that graduated from Pitt in the Journalism industry to start a blog so I have something to show people. So far i’ve only really taken lots of time for one of the posts, but i’m putting some thought into another one i’m about to start. Read the introduction and that will tell you mainly what it’s about.

    Thanks.

well, other than the fact that you can barely read your Blog title or subtitle, it seems okay. If you’re going to be using this as some sort of job-hunting springboard, just keep that in mind when writing – and don’t post anything you wouldn’t want a prospective employer to see. To that end, if you’re going to allow comments, set it up that you have to approve them before they’re published – that way you can weed out anything you don’t want the aforementioned prospective employers to see (because you’ll be held accountable, even if you didn’t write it. it’s all about people skills and management at that point.)

What she said. I included this site on an old resume because there are certain merits to creating and running your own website. The content though, got me shunned from a few interviews that I should have gotten, including my dream job.

RATL – I’ve had the same issue as Gally. I send my website and links because creating and running a site seem like valuable skills, but some of our content I’m sure discouraged prospective employers.

          • gally says:

Yeah. The one job i was beyond super qualified for(not overqualified) and didn’t even get an interview. Had I gotten the interview, I would have gotten the job, but alas.

I played with the font for a while and couldn’t figure out anything that didn’t look weird. I might have to go back to a light blue title. The subtitle…couldn’t find anything that looked right. I wish I could figure a way to make the picture grayscale (or at least lighter) but I couldn’t find an option. As far as the content, I feel like it’s mine, so I want to say the thing I want to say. I have published writing sample that show all the integrity type stuff. I also can show them my blog from the last few years that is written the way the want things to be.

Was watching a public service announcement in the airport over here last night in the airport. It was a cartoon and fun and stuff like that. It also said that the swine flu originated from America and had arrows to prove how it spread across the world. Fun times. On the plus side, I finally got my work permit, so I’m pretty excited about that.

  • semper_ubi_sub_ubi says:

Yeah the work permit should all be good now.

The best part of the last trip (my second since arriving in my city, and my 3rd including layover) was that I picked up an oil painting from the art market. For less than 20$ US. It’s a copy of something abstract, but I don’t know the original. It was also possible to purchase copies (oil on canvas, again) of van Goughs for the same price. Pretty impressive considering buying a poster of the paintings costs about that much at home.

I think that in the Roman period they had workshops dedicated to making knock-offs of Greek vases and statues and it seems that the same kind of industry flourishes here (which is great for decorating apartments when you’re poor).

OK folks. Off to school for me. Hopefully I’ll catch up another LC and let you know how things have been with me and find out what’s up with you motherfuckers.
