Now I know you all think that us Canadians are a kooky lot. We run around on ice with sticks and fight each other in a sport that some of you may know as Hockey. Our football is played with a bigger ball on a bigger field, but we only get three downs. Our beer is far greater than yours, though we pay an arm and a leg for it. The thing that we fail at the hardest though is entertainment.
Our movie industry is you folks filming movies in Vancouver and calling it New York. Our comedians are good, as we’ve produced Jim Carrey, John Candy, Mike Myers, Russell Peters and many more. Our TV is horrendous though. Sure we had The Kids In The Hall and Corner Gas, but it runs thin after that. You can even blame the aborted fetus that SNL is on us. We never had a lot in the way of reality shows though.
With that in mind our national television station, The CBC has created a reality show called Battle of the Blades. continue
As you may know, the Red Wings defeated the Blackhawks last night to set up the first back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals rematch, since 1984. The Finals are supposed to commence in 8, yeah 8 days, but the league is working some stuff out with NBC, to try and change that. The finals will Match up Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins and ???Joseph* Johan Franzen’s Detroit Red Wings.
Well, the game was pretty good and was the third one of the series to go into overtime, which is part of the reason the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the greatest championship in all of sports. Back to the topic of Domination. During the game, the Red Wings were killing a penalty, and Darren Helm single handedly went into the Blackhawk zone, played keep away from them and got a shot off. It was so incredible that at the 23 second mark, you hear the announcer, Jim Hughson exclaim, “Bullshit, and he’s got the puck again!”
So tonight, more evidence that you should be watching hockey happened. Martin Havlat of the Blackhawks had his head down, and Kronwall caught him with a deadly, but legal hit. Havlat has a history of concussions and likely has another one after this. Unfortunately for the Red Wings, Kronwall was given a five minute major and kicked out of the game. Neither referee called this penalty, or seemed to want to, but one of the linesmen did call it. In the NHL, a linesman can indeed call a major penalty. It’s doubtfull that he will be fined or suspended, but seeing as how the league want’s to crack down on hit’s to the head, you never know. I apologize for the video being long, but it does show multiple replays as well as some boring other stuff. I could have edited the video but…. if you could see me you would see a dissmissive hand wanking, so think about that..
Here’s Geno Malkin’s sick goal from game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final’s vs. Carolina. I can’t even describe how good the goal is. This is why everyone should watch hockey. You never know when something like this will happen.
So for those of you that don’t know, tonight is game 7 of the amazing Washington Capitols/ Pittsburgh Penguins Eastern Semi Final. If only the Americans had their own Ovechkin/Malkin/Crosby type. Hockey might be huge there. Well maybe they’ll be willing to adopt Ovechkin if he keeps dazzling and brings the cup to DC.
So what would you give up for the right to see tonight’s game live in person. Money, Sex……a Testicle?? One Washington sports fan has offered up his left nut to see the game. Crazy.
So the other day I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out…. nothing…does this thing work? Well anyways, Aaron Ward of the Boston Bruins tried being a tough guy and hitting Matt Cullen of the Hurricanes in the face with his stick. Scott Walker being a good teammate, comes to Cullen’s defense and thinks he’s getting into a fight with Ward. Ward didn’t see it that way, and now his face is broken. Lesson learned I suppose. As a side note, the league basically sided with Walker, and didn’t suspend him.
