The Gally Blog Mock Draft 3.0 and Live Blog Tonight!

The Gally Blog will be having a live blog draft party beginning around 7:15 PM EST/ 6:15 PM CST. Come drink and hate with us. At least when your team bumbles their pick you will be able to curse them somewhere of public record. Logic and Nonpopulist will be your hosts with all of your Gally Blog favorites stopping by. Bring a friend and some booze, mooch.

The third installment (picks 22-32): Can you feel the NFL draft fever heating up? Oooohhhh, it burns when I pee! We here at The Gally Blog decided to pool our knowledge and do a mock draft for you, the reader. Sure, we could have started doing mock drafts right after Alabama won the national championship, but it is MUCH easier to wait until everyone else does a mock draft so we can cheat off of other people’s work compare notes. In case you missed it, Part 1 is here and part 2 is here.

22. Patriots- Nonpopulist: Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas. Has the Patriots defense been a sham for enough years to make commentators stop talking about it yet? Sergio has a nice name and is a good pass rushing LB. They’ll be lucky to still get him here because I have seen Kindle going higher in a few mock drafts.
Gally: What are you talking about? The Pats defense has that guy. You know, Richard Seymour. Oh, well what about Teddy Bruschi? He had a stroke? Seriously? Well what about that guy, or you know that other guy?
K-Gun: Hey! Sergio! You’ve gotta get us outta here and so I say hey, Sergio! It’s gettin’ kinda hot in here and so I say hey. [horns] [oioioi]

23. Packers- PJDiaries: Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers. As a Vikings fan, writing about the Packers is easy. They need to draft everything because they suck! Teehee! This is also where WisconsinRob and I fight. Anyway, the main focus for the worst team ever at this pick was determined by their gang bang in the Arizona playoff game where Kurt Warner threw for 7000 yards and their offensive line blacked out on the last play where Erin was sacked. Oline and defensive back field help became the focus. It’s all pretty fresh, but since you can’t draft for two needs at once (unless the dude swings both ways, amirite?!) the Packers take the better player available to help their oline or DBs and that’s Devin McCourty, the CB from Rutgers. Charles Brown, the OT from USC is an option here but I don’t buy it especially when you still have that gaping vagina Al Harris on your team. You have to replace him soon.
Gally: yeah, it’s a pretty weak year for top notch o-lineman this year, so they may as well upgrade their secondary. Even Wisconsin Rob would agree here.

24. Eagles- Logic: Taylor Mays. S, USC. The Eagles might be calling this season a wash and rebuilding with their young skill players. I see an upgrade on defense in their future. Too bad their fans can’t upgrade their class, or SAT scores.
PJD: Wow, I didn’t even know that people hated Philly fans so much. I would like to subscribe to your brochure of hate.

25. Ravens- Nonpopulist: Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee. This pick is a toss-up between defensive line and tight end. The Ravens have a mostly aging defensive line, and not even God knows what kind of season Todd Heap is going to have. Tight end is also one of the most likely positions from which teams can get good production right away. Dan Williams next to Ngata scares me, frankly.
Gally: Everson Griffen is also a valid choice right now. If you look at their roster right now, they don’t have a single guy listed as a strict DE. All of them are LB/DE combos. Even in the 3-4 though, you need a big strong DE. Griffen did 32 reps, is 6’4″ 273 and runs a 4.65 40. Seems like he could be a good fit for them.

26. Cardinals- Gally: Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama. I know you’re thinking they need a QB other than Matt Leinhart and Derek Anderson, but shouldn’t we give them a year before we throw them in the woodchipper? There’s also that Roethlisberger guy who might still be on the market at the trade deadline. They really need a MLB here, but there’s none rated high enough to take at this point of the draft and the 1st round quality safeties are gone by this point in time. It might be a stretch to take Cody this early, but I saw him play in way too many games for a Northern Canadian last year. All I got was SEC games and I know Cody is a beast. He’s fallen on some boards due to conditioning and thoughts that he’s only a 2 down type of guy, but if he dominates those two downs who the hell cares.

NBA Playoff (Delayed) Preview

[edit: Knightmare just signed up with us and this post originally aired at 11logic]

First off, I would like to start by introducing myself. I consider myself a huge NBA fan. I watch almost all of the games of most teams so I know what’s going on in the league. For instance, I just won a bet off somebody that I made at the beginning of the year that the Oklahoma City Thunder would be a playoff team this year. (Logic’s Note: Yeah. He’s THAT good..) I would like to give credit to Logic for giving me the opportunity to post here. I’m here to give a preview of the first round match-ups in the NBA playoffs.

Western Conference

Lakers vs. Thunder: Lets start with the Lakers here. Everybody’s run away favorite to win the championship. Here’s a little tid bit for all you Laker front runners…the Lakers are 16 and 12 since the all star break…16 and 12. Does that sound like a dominant number 1 Western Conference seed to you? Granted, some games Kobe did not play and they took games at an easy pace down the stretch. But this is NOT a normal 8 seed… On to the Thunder. What’s not to like about this team? They have the NBA’s scoring champion at the age of just 21. They won 50 games! The highest of any 8th seed of all time. Again, this is not your normal 8th seed. Everything about this series spells trouble for the so called run away Western Conference champions. Final Verdict: After all is said and done, Kobe is not losing in the first round. Gasol usually steps his game up to a certain extent in the playoffs. Trust me, Game 1 will be a hassle for the defending champs. Mark it down. They are going to count on their veteran leadership such as Fisher, Vujacic, down the stretch. Of course, we can’t forget Kobe. If the Lakers don’t win Game 1, look out. It’s just that I don’t see them not winning game 1 in L.A. Lakers in 6 (more…)

Wildcard Weekend Preview: Cowboys vs. Eagles

Look at that quality facemasking going on.
Look at that quality facemasking going on.

I’m going to be completely honest here, I don’t like either of these teams. I don’t watch them either. Does that make me unqualified to preview the game? Like I’m qualified to preview any game anyways, doesn’t mean I’m going to make an attempt that you can all laugh at as I fail miserably.

Ooh, aparently I have to step out and won’t be able to get a proper post up before this game starts so this is going to be short and sweet. The Eagles have been very enigmatic this year, either playing convincingly well or playing like the peewee hockey team coached by Stan in the South Park episode, Stanleys Cup.

The Cowboys on the other hand have bucked their trend of playing like crap in December and are doing the proverbial getting hot at the right time of season thing. The line on this game, againg according to Cent Sports has the Boys by 4. Look for Dallas to win 35-21. Book it.

Carolina vs. Miami Preview

Okay folks, it’s Thursday Night Football in the NFL again. I had planned on having a preview for all this weeks games up today but I’ve been dealing with flaky Internet for the last couple hours, so instead you get todays game today and the rest of the games tomorrow. Tonights game features the Miami Dolphins on the road against the suddenly alive Carolina Panthers. According to Cent Sports, The Panthers are favored by three points tonight. Does that make sense to you? Well, it should.

Nearly the entirety of the Dolphins offense is based on Ronnie Brown and the Wildcat formation.

Previews and Predictions: UFC 105

Logic: Hello and welcome to our UFC 105 preview. I’m not going to lie, I think Gimp and I metaphorically blew our loads with the UFC 104 post because of our special guest and hopefully future bromance partner Vince from FilmDrunk killed it. I think he might have picked more winners than me (on top of being funnier). Thank God I still have the good looks. Well, I think UFC 105 is also a step down from the last MMA fight I saw, the Strikeforce event. Well, that event had Fedor and I’m pretty sure I’d huff Fedor’s farts given the opportunity. This card isn’t too bad because it does feature one man: Randy effing Couture. And if you don’t like Randy, you and I might not work out.

gimp: Hey look UFC is putting on another PPV…And would you look at that, it’s free. Then again, looking at the card thank god it’s free because I wouldn’t pay to watch it either. The quality of fights, outside of the Swick-Hardy, Couture-Vera (only because Couture is fighting) fights is not commonly on par for a PPV. Ultimate Fight Night definitely. PPV, eh not so much. The silver lining of course is 1) it’s free, and 2) it gives the UFC a chance to showcase some of the younger talent that you might not be familiar with. With that said, let’s get this show on the road.
